The Worcester Chapter of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists, Inc. has produced a CD entitled "Vital Statistics from 1916 through 1920" that can be purchased for only $10.00!

Information on the CD was transcribed from published Town Reports where available and from Town Clerk records where no reports were published. Information for Dudley, Sutton and West Boylston are from Town Clerk records.

Over 9300 births, 4000 marriages and 8000 deaths compiled into Microsoft Excel format so information can be searched in various ways.

Information included, but not limited to are, first, middle and last names, and in some cases, maiden names. There are ages at time of death and sometimes at time of marriage. Locations where recorded is given in all cases, and many entries include place of residence, place of birth, place of death and place of burial.

There are some wonderful surprises in these records. For instance, in Rutland death records, there are people from the Boston area or out of state that died in Rutland as patients in the TB sanitarium and this was also true with people in the Grafton State Hospital. Events often occurred in a town different from the person's residence or might be recorded in both the town of residence and the town of event. One person was found dead in Holden, was a resident of West Boylston and the death is recorded in both places. Marvelous tidbits of information can be found in the 'comments' column such as names of spouses (alive or deceased), widow/widower, reference to race, stillborns, twins, sex, name changes, hospitals and other useful things.

As one happy customer said: "In quickly scanning the marriages, I discovered that a couple who've eluded me for years were married in Millbury, where the bride lived (and it seems she was either widowed or perhaps divorced) and where there was no Polish parish, even though the groom lived in Worcester and most likely was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa. I had no idea these people ever had any Millbury connection. To my knowledge, they lived in Jefferson."

"Anyone researching Worcester County is bound to get their $10 worth out of this CD; I think it's the best $10 I've spent in a long time." Barbara Proko

The CD can be purchased by sending your name, address, phone, and email address to Pat McGrath, Past President, Worcester Chapter, 9 Phoebe Way, Worcester, MA 01605 along with a check made out to MSOG/Worcester Chapter. The cost tax included is $10.00 if you wish to receive the information via an email attachment or $12.00 if you wish to receive the actual CD and includes the $2.00 shipping expense.
